Leicestershire County Cricket Club is delighted to announce
that Head Coach Alfonso Thomas and Assistant Coach James Taylor have both
extended their contracts with the Club until the end of the 2028 season.
The extensions continue a hugely successful partnership
between the duo, who have overseen a transformative period for the Foxes both
on and off the field.
Since taking permanent charge ahead of the 2024 season,
Thomas and Taylor have helped guide Leicestershire back to Division One of the
Rothesay County Championship for the first time in 23 years, while also leading
the Club to continued success in white-ball cricket following the historic
Metro Bank One Day Cup triumph in 2023.
Under their leadership, the Foxes have developed an
exciting and competitive brand of cricket, while also creating a strong culture
within the dressing room that has seen several academy graduates and young
players flourish on the professional stage.
Alfonso Thomas, said:
“Leicestershire has become a really special place for me
and my family, so I’m incredibly pleased to extend my time with the Club.
“When James and I first stepped into these roles, we spoke
about building something the supporters could be proud of - not just in terms
of results, but in the way the team represents the Club every single day.
“We’ve made some fantastic progress together, but there’s
still a huge amount we want to achieve. The group we have here is ambitious,
hungry, and committed to continuing to push this Club forward.”
Taylor added:
“I’m absolutely delighted to be extending my contract with
the Club.
“There’s a genuine togetherness around Leicestershire at
the moment, from the players and staff to the members and supporters, and
that’s something we’re all incredibly proud to be part of.
“We’ve built strong foundations over the last few years and
I’m excited to continue working with Alfonso and the group as we look to keep
moving the Club driving forward.”
Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, said:
“Alfonso and James have played a massive role in the progress made at Leicestershire over the past few seasons.
“They’ve created a strong environment, developed players,
and helped establish a clear identity for how we want to play our cricket.
“We are delighted they will continue their roles through to
the end of 2028.”
The extensions provide further stability and continuity for
the Club as the Foxes continue their journey in Division One cricket and look
to build on the momentum created across all formats.
