Foxes Take 11 Points as Scarborough Clash Ends in Draw

There was no play possible due to a wet outfield on day four between Yorkshire and Leicestershire at Scarborough, with this 10th-round Rothesay County Championship match finishing in a draw.

Two hundred and seventy one overs were lost throughout this Division One fixture, with play only starting on time on day one and not getting out of the first innings. Today was the first day without out a ball bowled, and the two counties lost more overs in this game than they had previously in the entire red-ball summer.

Yorkshire posted 263 all out before Leicestershire replying with 84 without loss.

Leicestershire claimed 11 points to Yorkshire’s nine.

This was mid-table Yorkshire’s fourth draw in 10 games and Leicestershire’s third. 

The two sides will find out exactly where they sit points and placings wise later today ahead of a hugely exciting final four rounds of the summer.

As things stand, though, with other matches still in play, Leicestershire are out of the bottom two.

Yorkshire could still be relegated or win the title, highlighting just how exciting September is going to be for those in Division One. Avoiding relegation would be a major triumph for newly-promoted Leicestershire, especially if they can marry that with winning the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.

Yorkshire’s James Wharton stood out with 70, while Josh Hull claimed three wickets for Leicestershire, whose unbeaten opening batters Rishi Patel and Sheridon Gumbs also impressed with 41 and 39 respectively.

Umpires Ian Blackwell and Graham Lloyd inspected early on this morning in dry but overcast conditions and ruled that the outfield wasn’t fit enough for play. They initially called an early lunch at 12.30pm and then brought an end to proceedings at 12.25pm.
