Leicestershire made a great start in the first innings, reducing Worcestershire to 26-5 after 8 overs. Bishop and Boycott helped their side recover but a flurry of wickets at the end of the innings saw the visitors fall to only 72-8 at the end of their sixteen overs. However, the weather prevented the Foxes from being able to reply to the total set by the Rapids, meaning the game was decided in a bowl off which was won by Worcestershire, sending the Foxes out of the cup.
After rain reduced the game to sixteen overs a side, Foxes captain Brooker elected to bowl first after winning the toss.
The home side made a fast start with ball in hand, picking up Wright’s wicket at the end of the second over as she chipped a Phillips delivery straight down the ground to Herathge for a duck.
In Phillips’ next over, Khurana holed out to Flora Davies in the leg side, departing for 4. Thatcher removed Gough for 1 in the following over as she sliced a heave into the leg side to Chissell.
Gwen Davies was bowled by Chissell attempting a ramp for 7 an over later, before a running mix-up resulted in Mitchell being run out by Flora Davies for 8.
Bishop started to rebuild the Worcestershire innings, making 25 before she lofted an on drive to Whitfield – Teekasingh taking her first of the match. In the following over, Thatcher bowled Boycott for 10 before doing the same to Baker-Smith who fell for 1 later in the same over.
Worcestershire managed to reach 78/8 at the end of their 16 overs, setting the Foxes a manageable target.
However, after only three balls, play was curtailed due to bad light initially and then the rain, meaning the game was decided with a bowl off in the Mike Turner Indoor School. The Rapids came out on top, so they would be the side that progressed to the next round of the cup.
