Match Preview | County Championship | Essex | 15-18 May 2026

Following defeat at Hove against Sussex, Leicestershire now travel to Chelmsford to face Essex County Cricket Club in the final fixture of the opening block of the Rothesay County Championship season. The Foxes will be looking to bounce back with a strong performance and finish the first phase of the campaign on a positive note against an Essex side competing in Division One.

SQUAD:

There are several changes to the Foxes squad ahead of this week’s trip to Essex County Cricket Club. Tom Scriven misses out after aggravating the bruised rib injury he sustained against Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, while Tom Helm returns to his parent county following an impressive spell with the ball during his loan stint. Alex Green also drops out of the squad.

There is positive news, however, as Ben Mike returns to contention after a promising comeback through the Second XI. Sam Wood is also back available for selection ahead of the trip to Chelmsford.

Opposition Player to Watch:

Former Fox Wiaan Mulder will be one to watch for the hosts this weekend. The South African all-rounder has enjoyed a strong start to the Rothesay County Championship campaign, scoring 117 runs at an average of 29.25, including a half-century, whilst also picking up six wickets with the ball at 25.16. Having previously represented Leicestershire, Mulder will no doubt be eager to make an impact against his former side at Chelmsford.
