There is plenty riding on the final round of the County Championship season. Will Warwickshire secure the Division One title? Can Leicestershire complete a remarkable escape and steer clear of the relegation zone?

There is plenty still to be decided over the next four days at Edgbaston.

The Foxes head into the season finale following the disappointment of Sunday’s Metro Bank One Day Cup Final defeat to Middlesex. It was undoubtedly a tough result to take, but there is little time to dwell on it as attention quickly turns back to red-ball cricket.

Leicestershire make the short 35-mile trip to Birmingham to face Division One leaders Warwickshire, with both sides having plenty at stake.

The Bears require 14 points to guarantee the County Championship title, while the Foxes know a number of results need to fall their way if they are to retain their Division One status for 2027.

SQUAD

There are several changes to the Foxes squad heading into the final fixture of the season.

Nick Kelly will play no further part in the campaign after the rib injury he sustained during his match-winning innings has worsened in recent weeks, ruling him out of the trip to Edgbaston.

Rehan Ahmed is unavailable while away on international duty with England, while Hamza Shaikh, who remains on loan with the Foxes until the end of the week, is unable to face his parent club.

Nathan Gilchrist has also returned to Warwickshire following the conclusion of his two-match loan spell, which ended after the fixture against Hampshire.

There could, however, be a return for Sol Budinger, who is in contention to make his first red-ball appearance since the trip to Essex on 15 May.

Jonny Tattersall is also an option to come into the side as a specialist batter as the Foxes prepare for one final push in the 2026 County Championship.
