Leicestershire County Cricket Club has announced that Rehan
Ahmed will join the Delhi Capitals for the remainder of the 2026 Indian Premier
League (IPL) and will fly out to join the team immediately.
Rehan joins Harry Gurney and Stuart Broad and becomes the third Leicestershire’s
academy graduate to be selected in what is widely regarded as the biggest franchise
competition in world cricket - a landmark moment for both player and club.
Alongside Josh Hull’s involvement with the England Lions
over the winter and Alex Green’s success at the U19 World Cup, it underlines
the strength and continued progress of Leicestershire’s academy and pathway
system.
Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson said:
“We’re absolutely delighted for Rehan and incredibly proud
as a club to see him earn this opportunity. It’s a real testament to the hard
work of everyone within our academy and pathway system, and exactly what we
strive for.
To see one of our own stepping onto one of the biggest
stages in world cricket is a fantastic moment for us all. We’re excited to
watch him go and express himself, and we’ll be right behind him every step of
the way before welcoming him back to Leicester.”
Delhi Capitals currently sit fifth in the table, having won
three out of their six fixtures played.
The club wishes Rehan all the best of luck, and we look
forward to supporting him during his time in India and to welcoming him home upon
his return.
